Got a mould problem..?

You're in the right place.

Hi, I’m Amie Skilton – a functional medicine practitioner of almost 20 years, and a well known educator in naturopathic medicine. For over 15 years I’ve had the privilege of appearing on conference stages, TV sets and – more recently – laptop screens via Zoom; and in that time I’ve had the honour of presenting more than a thousand keynotes to functional medicine practitioners, integrative GPs, holistic pharmacists and the general public.

In 2017, I had the plot twist of my life. I developed an environmentally-acquired illness (CIRS or ‘mould illness’) and, amongst other discoveries, realised my naturopathic, nutritional and herbal toolkit were only as useful as my environment was healthy.

I’m now a qualified Mould Testing Technician, and continuing to study building biology and the various ways in which the built environment has a profound impact on human health – and so my educational repertoire has expanded to include environmental health hazards along with functional medicine strategies.

If you’re looking to learn more about mould and it’s impact on human health, and perhaps get some help with this if you’re being impacted too – you’re in the right place. This page is a one-stop shop for you to access:

  • all of my presentations, podcast interviews and articles on this subject
  • MouldProof Your Home (the eCourse)
  • training on how to screen a property ahead of renting or buying
  • one-on-one support, and
  • healthcare professional training.

MOULDPROOF YOUR HOME eCOURSE

MouldProof Your Home is a one-stop shop when it comes to preventing, assessing and managing mould. NB: included in the self-paced digital course material are tutorials on inspecting properties (to rent or to buy) but you can also book this as a standalone service further down the page.

PROPERTY SEARCH TRAINING

If you're looking to rent, or buy, let me teach you what to look out for.

The indoor spaces where we spend the bulk of our time are one of single most significant factors influencing our health; and given our home is the one we tend to spend the most time (and where we spend more time if feeling unwell) this is one environment we want to be very conscious when choosing.

Whilst engaging a Building Biologist is the gold standard for assessing a property for potential water-damage and mould – there are many telltale signs (and simple strategies you can employ) that can help you identify water damage in a building and avoid renting or purchasing something that may be hazardous to your health.

Given the accessibility to a property varies based on whether you’re looking to rent or buy, there are 2 different options to choose from. The trainings offer tailored recommendations based on accessibility, including sampling tips.

ARE YOU A CLINICIAN?

Unravelling CIRS-WDB – an exploration of water-damaged building exposure and biotoxin illness

This is an 8-module professional training program for healthcare professionals. I created this course because – no matter how well educated clinicians are – there is a gap in the curriculum when it comes to CIRS; both on the clinical side (recognising, diagnosing and treating it effectively), and the environmental side (how to prevent and identify mould, as well as how to remediate mouldy property and possessions safely). For more details on the course you can click the image of the booklet but, in brief, this eCourse covers:

  • A holistic and comprehensive roadmap to safely and effectively identifying and treating the CIRS-WDB patient, including addressing the environment, pathology testing and diagnosis methods, and treatment strategies
  • A guide on how to recommend and implement treatment strategies
  • A high-quality and engaging learning program where online sessions can be accessed any time, anywhere, with unlimited access to re-watch the modules
  • Includes online quizzes for revision, and the ability to check learning outcomes, as well as earn CPD points
  • Bonus audio interviews with CIRS-WDB experts exploring current and emerging evidence and challenges, as well as key strategies to address CIRS-WDB management
